From Idera, V8.0 of SQL Safe Backup

Idera, Inc. released the newest version of SQL Safe Backup with features to make SQL Server backup and restore for database administrators (DBAs).

SQL Safe Backup 8.0 includes Object Level Recovery (OLR) which allows DBAs to extract individual database objects from a backup file and restore them in lieu of rolling back the entire database – a time- and performance-intensive process that can put the database at risk. SQL Safe Backup also integrates with EMC Data Domain storage systems so it just takes one click for a DBA to initiate or restore a backup to or from Data Domain.

Virtually all of the day-to-day tasks associated with SQL Server backups and restores can be done from the Idera Web Dashboard, a single web console providing current status, top issues and alerts across multiple products including SQL Diagnostic Manager, SQL Business Intelligence and SQL Enterprise Job Manager.

“We’ve been looking forward to a broader expansion of the Web Dashboard since we first saw it in beta testing months ago,” said Robert Bishop, database administrator, Woman’s Hospital. “The idea that I can grant view-only permissions to individuals in my company by department so they can see the health of their databases on their own will save me valuable time I can then allocate to other, more critical tasks.“

Features add to existing SQL Safe Backup capabilities that include:

IntelliCompress2 technology – continually samples system resources and automatically adjusts the compression level to produce the smallest backup in the fastest possible time;
Instant restore – brings your database online immediately and streams data from the backup file ‘on demand’ to support applications and user requests while completing the restore operation in the background;
IntelliRestore – automatically assembles all the backup components necessary to restore the database to a specified point in time;
Backup mirroring – quickly and easily writes duplicate backup files to different locations during a single backup operation.

“Our primary goal for this new release is to give our customers one place to get instant visibility into their SQL Server environment and simplify their DBA responsibilities,” said Robert Anderson, senior director, product management, Idera. “As the role of the DBA becomes more strategic to the business, they need tools that save time, reduce failures and automate and manage processes in a more centralized, scalable manner.“
