On October 1st, 2015 – after three years – Open-E will take the next step for DSS V7 by releasing the update up50 with improved storage features.

This news is especially relevant for company’s customers who are still using the legacy product DSS V6 with the popular active-passive failover for the file system protocol NFS. With the product reaching end-of-life and end-of-support fast approaching in 2016, customers will be able to use a unified solution where all features of both products are combined and improved. Existing SS V7 users on the other hand do not need to worry: they can download the up50 free of charge like any previous update.

Company’s developers have spent the last few months combining the features of DSS V6 and DSS V7 for this extensive update – they created a whole version including the best of both worlds.

Main improvements in DSS V7 up50 are:

  • Active-passive failover for NFS and iSCSI cluster setups included at no extra cost

  • Active-active failover for NFS and iSCSI cluster setups (Feature Packs)

  • Local backup tool for creating incremental backups to local devices

  • Advanced storage cluster management for NFS

  • Improved hardware support and kernel

These changes in company’s product portfolio led the company to offer special discounts for all existing DSS V6 customers. The company started an ‘upgrade promotion’ until September 30th, 2015 and offers 25% discount on all DSS V6 to V7 upgrade licenses. Additionally, customers with a running support license get a free-of-charge support renewal in addition to every upgrade license, and customers with expired support can benefit from a 50% discount on technical support reinstatements.

Krzysztof Franek, CEO and president, Open-E, said on the upcoming changes: “We’re glad to offer our customers the new up50, including the enhanced failover features in Open-E DSS V7. Clients still using Open-E DSS V6 will benefit from the many advantages and new functionalities, especially in regards to the failover for the NFS protocol.
