DataCore Adds Emulex 6Gb FC HBA

To new SANsymphony-V10 platform with write acceleration

Emulex Corporation announced that DataCore Software Corp. is releasing target mode support in its new SANsymphony-V10 software-defined storage platform, for Emulex LightPulse Gen 5 (16Gb FC) HBA technology.

HBAs are also certified as part of the DataCore Ready Program, which identifies solutions that are trusted to enhance DataCore SANsymphony-V software-defined storage infrastructures.

FC is the prevalent storage network for demanding enterprise applications. DataCore software-defined storage platforms and Emulex Gen 5 FC technology are an ideal combination to overcome the performance and data protection problems arising from increasing enterprise VM densities, mixed workloads ranging from tier 1 databases and VDIs, and archival and backups that span across organizations and multiple sites,” said Phil Williams, VP of business development and strategic alliances, DataCore. “We are proud of our partnership with Emulex, which has grown and advanced for more than a decade, and our new advanced capabilities will allow our joint customers to realize the full benefits of using SANsymphony-V10 with Emulex Gen 5 FC technology to meet their most demanding business needs.”

Enterprises are looking for performance, and a scalable and flexible approach to extend their FC SANs. SANsymphony-V10, with Gen 5 FC target support provides an optimal and scalable environment providing needed performance acceleration, faster response times, metro-cluster data redundancy and storage virtualization flexibility. Gen 5 FC technology is capable of up to 21% greater OLTP transactions when compared to competing Gen 5 FC HBAs (Emulex Labs Report: SQL 2012 Application Performance Testing, Feb. 2013), and, when combined with the DataCore Random Write Accelerator technology, provides up to a 30X faster performance for random write-heavy workloads. The low latency of the LPe16000 Gen 5 FC HBA together with the Random Write Accelerator also provides very fast response to transaction-oriented applications and databases, while allowing SANsymphony-V10 to automatically optimize performance across mixed workloads in physical and virtualized environments. SANsymphony servers can also be configured with redundant dual-port HBAs, allowing one port to be active and the other in failover mode, while still achieving maximum throughput. This allows the SANsymphony-V10 server groups to achieve high level of scalability.

Emulex and DataCore have worked closely together to provide a new class of software-defined storage solutions that will enable flexible and dynamic infrastructure for cloud, telco and enterprise data centers,” said Shaun Walsh, senior VP marketing, Emulex. “This latest collaboration demonstrates the full benefit of moving to Gen 5 FC for DataCore SANsymphony-V10 customers and enables their existing and next generation workloads to scale seamlessly.

DataCore leveraged the Emulex OneCore Storage Software Development Kit (SDK). It is for independent hardware and software vendors (IHVs and ISVs) and SIs to create target side drivers in a custom, high efficiency environment, offering a range of storage applications and back-end support, and support for all Emulex I/O connectivity solutions.
