From a single pane of glass, users will be able to monitor backup methods, performance, success and failures, problem and resource management, virtual environment recovery, configuration and storage utilization reports and errors to help minimize the complexity that virtualization adds to backup and recovery operations.

Bocada Vision software technology addresses issues of VM recoverability by providing insight into whether backups are successful and where recovery points are. It tells users what resources are being used to protect VMs and whether they are optimized while detailing the performance impact of protecting VMs. A standalone solution for managing data protection in virtual environments, Bocada Vision can also be integrated with Bocada Prism to provide physical and virtual protection of a user’s entire backup infrastructure.

Bocada has teamed with companies Quest, Veeam and VMware to integrate Vision into their product offerings and enable support for users. Bocada Vision is integrated with VMware vCenter and supports vDataRecovery. Vision also supports Quest vRanger Pro, Veeam Backup & Replication and Symantec NBU 7.1, with plans to add additional support for applications with enhanced virtual backup support.

"Data protection of virtual environments introduces complexities not seen when performing physical backups, and that becomes a barrier to adoption of VMs in the data center," said Nancy Hurley, Bocada CEO. "Vision is the industry’s first and only solution to provide insight into the data protection operations of virtual environments helping organizations overcome concerns regarding virtual backups and whether mission-critical data will be recoverable."

In a recent Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG) survey sponsored by Bocada, 60 percent of respondents rated backup and recovery processes for virtual servers as a Top 5 data protection challenge. Validating recoverability, gaining visibility into capacity use, and understanding performance impacts on applications/workloads in the virtual environment when running backups were cited as top concerns.

"Bocada continues to bring data protection management more in line with the ever-changing requirements of business’ most-challenging information environments," said Lauren Whitehouse, Senior Analyst at ESG. "With its new offering, Bocada is bridging the gap between virtual and physical servers, and addressing the challenges associated with backup and recovery compliance in virtualized environments. Bocada Vision brings tremendous value to organizations looking to ensure that the integrity of their data remains intact and that information remains accessible no matter where it resides within the corporate infrastructure."

Bocada Vision is available as a standalone module within Bocada Prism, a service management application that was built to help organizations move through the DPSM model, a multi-phase set of best practices to ensure cost-effective delivery of data protection services to customers. Bocada leveraged years of customer experiences to create a workflow-driven, intelligent analysis solution with built in SLA impact analysis, change tracking, trend analysis and a searchable knowledge base to ensure organizations can meet business goals and improve operational efficiencies. When used over an extended period of time, Prism provides a historical overview of the backup environment to see if it is operating the way it should be. This information is vital in addressing whether changes need to be made, the architecture needs updating, and what data is readily available, as well as to forecast future growth.

Bocada Vision will be available shortly with pricing established by VM instance.
