Yamaha Filed Complaint Vs. Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology

On writing information to CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs

Yamaha Corp. filed a complaint on December 31, 2013 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology Corp. (TSST) alleging that it infringed its 11 patents for writing information to CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs, despite Yamaha’s offer to license the technology to the companies.

TSST is an joint venture company of Toshiba (Japan) and Samsung Electronics (South Korea). Toshiba owns 51% of its stock, while Samsung owns 49%.

In October 2009, TSST had received a subpoena from the U.S. Justice Department for possibly violating the antitrust laws.
