These SX-10 models allow users of a range of Media Asset Management (MAM) systems to archive their media assets to Sony’s Optical Disc Archive cartridges.

For low cost and long-term media file retention, the companies’ combined archive solutions seek to meet the needs of professionals that require reliable protection for their valuable media assets and are tasked with freeing up additional space on primary storage.

SX-10 Archive Appliance models:

  • SX-10-222 – Manages one to two external Optical Disc Archive drives and connects via USB 3.0.

  • SX-10-234 – Connects to Sony’s ODS-L30M robotic library with up to two internal Optical Disc Archive drives via FC and has the capability of supporting up to 30-cartridge slots.

  • SX-10-238 – Also connects to ODS-L30M robotic library via FC, with the ability to support up to 131-cartridge slots, providing a near-line capacity of 196.5TB.

In addition to offering near-line capacity on Optical Disc Archive ODS-L30M library and, ODSD77U USB 3.0 drives, SX-10 Archive Appliance range has the ability to manage an unlimited number of offline optical cartridges, providing an infinite archive capacity. For example, if a user wants to restore a file from an offline Optical Disc Archive cartridge, the system is able to identify the offline cartridge barcode or name and provide an on-screen notification or email alert, enabling users to determine which cartridge must be inserted back into a drive or the library before restoring it via the network.

The combined archive architecture also allows network connection, enabling files to be archived to and restored from optical cartridges, just as files are transferred to and from a standard network share. The SX-10 uses a customizable file/folder structure that works with most applications used in the creative media industry. For example, the combined storage solution is compatible with the majority of MAM systems, including Avid Interplay, axle Video’s MAM, CatDV from Squarebox Systems, Cinegy’s MAM, Dalet’s asset management systems, eMAM from Empress, IBIS from ORAD, Mediator from Evertz and the Metus MAM.

The SX-10 includes a 4TB magnetic disk cache, which provides enhanced performance in a network environment. This allows the system to start accepting files for archive before an Optical Disc Archive cartridge is mounted; to span file transfers across optical cartridges; and to prioritize use of the Optical Disc Archive drives for file restores, while continuing to accept files buffered on the cache for archiving.

The SX-10 will be demonstrated managing an ODS-L30M at NAB 2015 in Las Vegas, NV from April 13- April 16, located on both the XenData and Sony booths.
