Zadara Storage Expands Down Under With AWS AsiaPac (Sydney)

For enterprise cloud storage as a service

Zadara Storage, Inc. announced that its enterprise cloud storage as a service (STaaS) is available in the AWS AsiaPac (Sydney) Region following the new deployment by Zadara partner SerenitaaS, Inc., provider of advanced storage solutions.

Now enterprises and service providers in Australasia who need block and file, SAN and NAS capabilities or who wish to replicate local data, can leverage Zadara’s Virtual Private Storage Array (VPSA) high QoS offering. The deployment represents the fifth AWS Region to offer VPSA, and the 10th announced global data center, allowing more organizations and service providers to enjoy the high QoS and other benefits of traditional on-premises storage in a flexible, pay as you go, OpEx model for either primary (for applications) or secondary (for repository) storage applications.

SerenITaaS deployed Zadara’s storage at the Equinix facility in the Mascot area of Sydney in part to meet the needs of its longstanding customer, Echo360, Inc., in active and distance learning solutions.

All higher education segments, universities, TAFE and RTO, require a reliable way to store their valuable instructional media and videos,” said Tony Abate, COO, Echo360. “With Zadara deployed in Australia integrated with the AWS Sydney powering our compute cloud, we have a unified, local hosting option for customers. They can automatically capture and archive campus lectures and other digital learning resources, and stream or download this learning content to online students anywhere. Our education customers gain the ease and value of a cloud deployment with the performance of an on-premise installation.

SerenITaaS, a sister company of Stratus Technology in Markham, ONT, Canada, and a global Zadara Integration Program Partner, will also lead the development of relationships within the ANZ AWS partner community, enabling local companies to resell Zadara Storage services in ANZ as well as from any of the global Zadara Storage node locations.

We are delighted to help bring Zadara Storage services for AWS to Australia and New Zealand and enable Echo360 to conduct its hosting operations on the Zadara/AWS platform,” said Glenn Cameron, CEO, SerenITaaS. “The Canadian and Australasian technology communities have always had a great relationship. We look forward to working with the AWS partner community down under to expand its portfolio of capabilities.

ZVPSA is colocated at Equinix’s facility and connected to the AWS compute resources via AWS Direct Connect high speed fiber lines. Drives are private and not shared with anyone else, so users can obtain single-tenant performance at multitenant prices and avoid the ‘noisy neighbor’ problem (which occurs in competing services when other customers degrade storage performance). Expansion to more drives, or switching from disks to SSDs, is as simple as clicking a button on the dedicated online management interface provided to each customer. At any time users can also eliminate drives, adjust controller performance, and fine tune other storage needs on the fly – allowing agility and control in a flexible, pay-as-you-go model.

We’re proud to make AWS Sydney our 10th announced data center to offer Zadara’s elastic, enterprise storage as a service to local enterprises and service providers,” said Nelson Nahum, CEO, Zadara. “We’re eager for the AWS community to leverage this opportunity to migrate high-performance computing applications to the AWS Sydney area with our SAN like capabilities on board.

Zadara has showcased is VPSA service at the AWS Summit Sydney on April 9 at the Hordern Pavilion & Royal Hall of Industries.
