To enhance VMware EVO: RAIL and Virtual SAN offerings

Nexenta Systems, Inc. announced a collaboration to enhance Super Micro Computer, Inc.‘s VMware EVO: RAIL and VMware Virtual SAN offerings with the NexentaConnect for VMware Virtual SAN, providing full featured file services.

Supermicro, coupled with NexentaConnect, will be able to provide VMware Virtual SAN-based systems including Virtual SAN Ready Nodes and an EVO: RAIL appliance to deliver a complete platform for its worldwide partners to provide a full-featured and complete hyper-converged solutions helping customers transition to a Software-Defined Data Center.

Supermicro’s VMware certified EVO: RAIL and Virtual SAN SuperServer platforms deliver the performance, density, efficiency and reliability required in hyper-scale virtualized environments,” said Wally Liaw, SVP sales, Supermicro. “Our collaborative efforts with Nexenta and VMware accelerate deployment of complete unified storage infrastructure solutions, maximizing resource utilization and reducing operational expenses across next generation software-defined data centers.”

NexentaConnect for VMware Virtual SAN provides full featured file services designed around VMware EVO: RAIL and VMware Virtual SAN. VMware EVO: RAIL combines VMware compute, networking, and storage resources into a hyper-converged infrastructure appliance to create an all-in-one solution offered by partners. Built directly into the vSphere kernel, VMware Virtual SAN delivers a new tier of storage built from the ground up for VMs. Taking advantage of the VM-level storage policies, VMware Virtual SAN matches business needs with underlying storage resources. Customers can consume VMware Virtual SAN by selecting components from the hardware compatibility list, relying on pre-configured Ready Node servers or by purchasing the EVO: RAIL appliance.

Our collaboration with Nexenta and Supermicro builds upon VMware’s ecosystem, helping deliver a full featured, best-in-class hyper-converged Infrastructure solution to our mutual customers,” said Mornay Van Der Walt, VP of emerging solutions, VMware, Inc.

NexentaConnect for VMware Virtual SAN augments the software defined storage concept for VMware Virtual SAN users. NexentaConnect for VMware Virtual SAN adds NFS and SMB file services, along with data protection and reduction, without additional hardware needs, and was demonstrated at VMworld Europe 2014, October 13-16 in Barcelona.

Working closely with Supermicro and VMware, we have created integrated and hyper-converged offerings that extend the functionality of Supermicro Virtual SAN Ready Nodes and the new EVO: RAIL appliance to a broader range of use cases,” said Phil Underwood, COO, Nexenta. “NexentaConnect for VMware Virtual SAN supports our goal of helping enterprises unlock the potential of their storage and ultimately their data centers.

These solutions will be available in November 2014.
