PoINT Storage Manager Certified for EMC Data Domain

PoINT Software & Systems GmbH announced that PoINT Storage Manager version 5.1 with integrated support of EMC Data Domain as additional archive storage system has completed the EMC certification process.

By combining PoINT Storage Manager and Data Domain a certified solution is available to customers, which fulfills archiving requirements and offloads inactive data from primary storage systems. By supporting Data Domain the manufacturer and Independent Software Vendor (ISV) PoINT has covered an additional, well-established storage system by its data and storage management software.

The software connector integrated in PoINT Storage Manager is developed for Data Domain and utilizes the special functions and advantages of Data Domain. Users are able to consolidate archived data in so-called ‘Archive Volumes’ (container files in standardized format) and thus can optimally use the compression and de-duplication functions of Data Domain. The system performance can be increased further by parallel transfer of multiple archive volumes to Data Domain at the same time. Furthermore multi-tenancy configurations and Data Domain retention functionality (‘RL-Governance’ and ‘RL-Compliance’) are supported. Data integrity is guaranteed by a consistent verification of every stage of the dataflow. Finally a configurable cache optimizes the performance of the complete system during read.
