For secure enterprise file sync and share

ownCloud, Inc. announced an offering to give organizations a secure, private on-premises alternative for file sync and share by combining Red Hat Storage Server 3 with its Enterprise Edition on-premises enterprise file sync and share.

The combination gives organizations an open source enterprise-grade alternative for file syncing, sharing and collaborating to help meet their regulatory and security compliance needs. ownCloud has special pricing of 1,000-user Enterprise Edition subscriptions when purchased with Red Hat Storage Server 3 before December 31, 2014.

To support this, the companies have published a reference architecture to assist customers in deploying the Enterprise Edition and Red Hat Storage Server 3 solution. Estimated pricing for a solution deployed on industry-standard big data servers starts at $4.45 per user per month for 1,000 users, inclusive of server hardware, ownCloud and Red Hat Storage Server 3 subscription licensing.

With more than 1.6 million users worldwide, ownCloud offers flexibility, sophistication, privacy and security. It installs on a web server, enabling users to host their own file sync and share, using their own storage (or cloud storage they choose), instead of relying on third parties outside of their control.

Announced by Red Hat, Red Hat Storage Server 3 is based on open source GlusterFS 3.6 file system and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and designed to scale to support patebytes of data and offers granular control of your storage environment while lowering the overall cost of storage.

ownCloud offers businesses an open, compliant way for their employees to collaborate,” said Brent Compton, director of ecosystem, storage and big data, Red Hat. “With ownCloud Enterprise Edition and Red Hat Storage Server 3, businesses can better control sensitive data while more easily scaling to meet growing demand and expanding storage requirements. This combined collaboration and sharing solution offers a new alternative to enterprise and institutional customers, combining consumer-grade ease-of-use, regulatory compliance features, and commodity storage costs.

See how it scales
The previously released performance testing benchmarked 40,000 concurrent users of ownCloud Enterprise Edition and Red Hat Storage Server 3 running on industry-standard servers. The configuration used illustrates a 2x TCO improvement by converging the application server and storage server tiers onto the same servers, compared to traditional solutions with separate storage server appliances. This enables businesses to scale more quickly and cost-effectively with user demand like a public cloud with greater control of sensitive data and without subsidizing free cloud vendor users.

Red Hat Storage Server 3 is well suited for enterprises that are looking to lower storage costs, streamline information access and flexible deployment options,” said Matthew Richards, VP of products, ownCloud. “The combination of Red Hat Storage Server 3 and ownCloud Enterprise Edition gives businesses an open, secure and private way for their employees to collaborate, sync and share corporate files.”
