Mellanox Interconnect Solutions Accelerate HP Apollo HPCs

With 56Gb IB and 10/40 GbE

Mellanox Technologies, Ltd announced that HP’s Apollo family of HPC systems are accelerated by Mellanox’s FDR 56Gb/s IB and 10/40 GbE interconnect solutions to maximize data center ROI and solve space and energy efficiency challenges.

The HP Apollo family utilizes a modular rack design with advanced air and water cooling techniques, smart memory and smart sensors. Compared to standard rack servers of the same footprint, the new systems increase performance by 4X while using less energy. The new HP Apollo family with Mellanox interconnects, enables enterprises to take advantage of the power of data and to enhance their processing capabilities for the applications of tomorrow.

We are pleased to collaborate with HP to develop the new Apollo Systems with Mellanox interconnects,” said Chuck Tybur, VP, global accounts and America’s OEM sales, Mellanox. “The joint solution enables customers to quickly deploy a scalable and efficient high-performance data center and accelerate their mission critical applications, while reducing costs.

The HP Apollo family with Mellanox interconnects harnesses the power of HPC, while running an eco-friendly data center,” said Scott Misage, GM, HPC, HP. “Enterprises looking to adopt HPC technology and early adopters can both benefit from the economic and environmental gains with our new solutions.

The HP Apollo portfolio features the Apollo 6000 System and Apollo 8000 System.

The Apollo 6000 System has an air cooled server rack design with up to 160 servers per rack, external power shelf and ConnectX-3 adapter cards with Virtual Protocol Interconnect (VPI). The ConnectX-3 adapter cards with VPI supports FDR 56Gb/s IB and 10/40 GbE with RoCE connectivity. The solution reduces operating expenses by up to 45% and decreases floor space by up to 60% than a competing blade. Enterprises with demanding applications such as electronic design automation or financial service risk analysis can  leverage the power of HPC with an infrastructure that is flexible, affordable and easy to manage.

The Apollo 8000 System, with ConnectX-3 Pro FDR 56Gb/s IB dual-port adapters and SwitchX-2 FDR 56Gb/s IB, has up to 144 servers per rack and is a 100% water-cooled supercomputer with 4X more teraflops of performance per rack compared to air cooled designs. The eco-friendly design eliminates up to 3,800 tons of carbon dioxide waste per year from each data center and the water used to cool the system can be used as a heat source for facilities, reducing operating expenses.
