Meditech Certifies Commvault Data Management Software With HPE 3par

For electronic health record systems

Commvault Systems, Inc. announced that Medical Information Technology, Inc. (Meditech), a provider of Electronic Health Records (EHR), has certified its data protection and recovery solution for its EHR system with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) 3PAR Storage Arrays.

With this certification, healthcare providers will have access to an integrated and modernized data management solution that can backup, archive and recover Meditech applications, as well as clinical, business and other applications and data, both on premise and in the cloud via Meditech’s network of solution integrators and hosting service providers.

Meditech’s certification of Commvault’s data protection software provides access to the enterprise data protection solution for organisations running Meditech EHR systems, eliminating the costs associated with maintaining and supporting legacy applications, enabling customers to move more data to the cloud and securely share data across their organisation.

Additionally, by empowering healthcare providers to break down data silos, simplify data management and maintain the security and privacy of patient information, Commvault helps organisations protect their Meditech EHR environment while reducing data management costs, complying with regulatory requirements, and improving the quality of patient care.

After working with Commvault to fully integrate their data management solution into Meditech EHR, we tested the solution and it passed all our tests with flying colors,” said Chris Bokis, director of systems development, Meditech. “Having now certified that our customers can depend on Commvault to backup and recover their Meditech environment, we expect that many of them will want to consider how its diverse set of capabilities can help them address some of their most challenging enterprise data management problems, including centralisation of data management activities and data protection for cloud-based Meditech deployments.

Through its certification with Meditech EHR, Commvault is able to provide customers integrated backup and DR using Commvault’s IntelliSnap technology to create consistent data snapshots, which administrators can access for data recovery and to backup Meditech’s MAGIC, Client/Server 5.x, and 6.x platforms data to disk, tape, or cloud storage. As a result, this data protection model can be used to protect data in Meditech EHR and Meditech’s Scanning and Archiving (SCA) solution.

Furthermore, Commvault’s software and the Commvault data platform are hardware-agnostic, enabling customers to backup data on Meditech certified storage arrays, as well as other storage solutions utilised by healthcare providers for their clinical and business applications along with all other unstructured data. HPE 3PAR is the first storage array to receive certification while various other arrays are currently going through validation and are on schedule to receive certification in the near future.

While EHR applications have been in use and widely adopted for quite some time now, EHR data management, as well as management of clinical, analytics, patient engagement and customer relationship management (CRM) data, continues to represent a significant challenge for healthcare providers, particularly as they attempt to move applications and data off premise and to the cloud,” said IDC research director Judy Hanover. “Customers are looking for more open systems for their complex data management requirements and they are trying to break down data silos and unify data management processes. This includes archiving and backup, and the ability to protect and recover data in on-premise or cloud-based implementations of healthcare applications like Meditech, while allowing providers to lower their TCO, streamline operations and even improve clinical decision making.

Emerging Leader in Healthcare Data Management
The Meditech certification comes on the heels of other initiatives that have strengthened Commvault’s position in the growing healthcare data management market. In December, Commvault entered a partnership with Laitek Inc., in rapid data migration and storage services, for decommissioning legacy picture archiving and communication systems (PACS). In March, in partnership with Laitek, the company launched Commvault Clinical Archive to modernise the way healthcare organisations manage, migrate and share clinical data. Respected healthcare providers and hospitals in the world are using Commvault software to manage and protect business and clinical data, including Beth Israel Deaconess Medical CenterRoyal Cornwall HospitalsVirtual Radiologic Corporation (vRad), University of Rochester Medical Center, and Salem Health.

Commvault has brought modern data management to both sides the healthcare industry – business and clinical – and Meditech’s certification on HP 3PAR and many storage arrays to follow is another indication of our success,” said N. Robert Hammer, chairman, president and CEO, Commvault. “As hospitals and healthcare providers seek new ways to improve patient care while reducing IT spend, they are increasingly discovering that Commvault’s unified approach to data management enables them to cost-effectively handle growing volumes of data, meet compliance requirements and improve their ability to deliver high quality care to their patients.
