Load DynamiX Performance Validation Appliances Utilized by HP

To validate performance of StoreVirtual VSA software-defined storage

Load DynamiX, Inc., in storage performance validation, announced that its workload modeling and load generation solutions were deployed by Hewlett-Packard Development Company, LP to test and validate industry performance of HP StoreVirtual VSA storage solution running on new Xeon processor E5 v3 based servers.

HP collaborated with Load DynamiX for a deeper understanding of how VDI and online transaction processing (OLTP) application workloads would perform on a HP ProLiant Gen9 server running StoreVirtual VSA software. Load DynamiX worked with HP to develop OLTP and VDI workloads that would showcase the performance capabilities of new StoreVirtual VSA software when deployed on the new Xeon processor E5 v3 product family. HP’s results proved that the latest Xeon-based servers demonstrated a 4X storage performance increase for VDI and a 1.8X increase with OLTP workloads as compared to previous generation Intel server processor technology without additional latencies.

The StoreVirtual VSA transforms a server’s internal or DAS into a featured shared storage array without the cost and complexity associated with dedicated storage. It is a hypervisor and hardware agnostic virtual storage appliance optimized for vSphere, Hyper-V, KVM, and OpenStack environments.

Load DynamiX offers a performance validation solution designed to meet the needs of storage and storage network technology vendors. It combines deep and accurate emulation of networked storage protocols and workloads, with high performing load generating appliances, capable of stressing today’s largest networked storage systems.

The rise of mobile, cloud, social and big data is driving unprecedented performance requirements for next-generation storage platforms,” said Len Rosenthal, VP marketing, Load DynamiX. “Leading storage system vendors such as HP must prove that their solutions can reliably deliver the storage performance required of this new generation of virtualized applications. Deploying workload modeling and performance validation solutions are the best way for these vendors to accurately show that their solutions meet these demanding requirements.

At HP, we utilize Load DynamiX to help us deliver higher performance and higher-quality storage products,” said Craig Nunes, VP, storage marketing, HP. “Through our joint efforts, we were able to clearly showcase the performance scalability and advantages of our new StoreVirtual VSA solution based on the newest Intel Xeon E5 v3 based platforms running real-world applications.
