Apple Assigned Two Patents

Managing storage, memory with multiple analog memory cells fabrication

Managing storage
Apple, Inc., Cupertino, CA, has been assigned a patent (8,615,630) developed by two co-inventors for systems and methods for “managing storage.”

The co-inventors are James D. Batson, Saratoga, CA, and Roger Pantos, Sunnyvale, CA.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “This invention is directed to a system by which data received by an electronic device from a server may be selectively stored in cache. The electronic device may define an anchor that is related to the current position of a playhead reading data stored in cache. The electronic device may then dynamically assign values to each data block of the received file based on the position of the anchor. As the anchor moves, the value of data blocks changes, and new incoming data may replace less valuable data previously stored in cache.

The patent application was filed on June 25, 2008 (12/145,784).

Memory with multiple analog memory cells fabrication
Apple, Cupertino, CA, has been assigned a patent (8,599,592) developed by seven co-inventors for a method “for storage in a memory that includes multiple analog memory cells fabrication.”

The co-inventors are Barak Rotbard, Tel Aviv, Israel, Naftali Sommer, Rishon Lezion, Israel, Shai Winter, Giva’ataim, Israel, Ofir Shalvi, Dotan Sokolov, Ra’anana, Israel, Or Ordentlich, Tel Aviv, Israel, and Micha Anholt, Tel Aviv, Israel.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “A method for data storage in a memory that includes multiple analog memory cells fabricated using respective physical media, includes identifying a group of the memory cells whose physical media have deteriorated over time below a given storage quality level. A rejuvenation process, which causes the physical media of the memory cells in the group to meet the given storage quality level, is applied to the identified group. Data is stored in the rejuvenated group of the memory cells.”

The patent application was filed on July 23, 2012 (13/555,745).
