SGI Definitively Acquired Starboard Storage Systems

There were formerly some rumors on this deal.

According to a source being in deep contact with SGI, SGI acquires the assets, IP and staff of Starboard Storage Systems, Inc. after the closing of the young company.

Once more, a big computer company, here especially in HPC, acquired a start-up to get more knowledge on SSD subsystems. Remember the acquisition of XtremIO by EMC, Nevex by Intel, and Whiptail by Cisco.

That the third storage acquisition of $600 million company SGI after FileTek last year and assets of Copan Systems in 2010.

Born two years ago after the closing of RELDATA, Starboard Storage Systems (Broomfield, CO), closed $13 million series B in 2012. Headed by CEO Victor Walker and then Bill Chambers, it designed unified hybrid storage (SSD and HDD) subsystems able to optimize each application.
