One-Third of Companies to Adopt New File, Sync and Share Solution in Next 12 Months

Connected Data survey conducted by the Wilson Research

Connected Data, Inc. announced findings from a new industry survey conducted by the Wilson Research Group LLC that reveal market assumptions and preferences regarding file sync and share (FSS) cloud solutions.

The findings show that over one-third (33.6%) of companies are planning to switch to or adopt a new FSS solution in the next 12 months. Nearly one-quarter (21%) of companies surveyed plan to make a change in their current FSS solution within the next year. The study also found that 13% of companies plan to adopt their first-ever FSS system within the next 12 months.

Among other survey highlights, IT managers, directors and other IT executives and consultants listed
the following as their top five objectives for a new FSS solution:

  • Enhancing teamwork and collaboration by offering FSS services (51.3%)
  • Providing FSS for remote employees (46.2%)
  • Providing a way to backup company data on a notebook/portable computers (41.0%)
  • Acquiring a capability to share or distribute files too large to send via email (33.3%)
  • Providing mobile access for all employees (28.2%)

Respondents also reported that the vast majority (87.3%) want to own and manage the FSS function rather than rely on a third-party provider. Additional objectives mentioned for adopting a new FSS solution include acquiring offsite backup capability (17.9%), and providing a corporate service to eliminate the use of unauthorized service providers (12.8%).

The Wilson Research Group study confirms the rapidly growing need for secure and compliant FSS solutions-particularly for larger companies,” said Geoff Barrall, CEO, Connected Data. “From the data it is clear that these companies are looking for solutions that are able to deliver all the convenience of public cloud, combined with the security, performance, protection and control that only a private cloud onsite solution can provide. Unfortunately, as many have learned the hard way, there are very few options that can meet all, if any, of these requirements.”

We hear these needs from our customers on a daily basis,” continued Barrall. “After carefully conducting their own due diligence, they select Connected Data’s Transporter, a FSS solution that truly meets all of their users needs for uninterrupted and flexible data access across every major mobile platform, while enabling their IT management to ensure compliance with internal performance, availability, security, and protection requirements, all while lowering associated costs.

Connected Data’s Transporter is in protecting and securing business data onsite by removing the risk, complexity and costs associated with public cloud services. Designed to look and work like popular cloud file sharing, Transporter private cloud appliances support employees’ needs to sync, access and share files anytime, anywhere across their computers and mobile devices for maximum productivity. Moreover, with the addition of its Network Storage Connector feature, Transporter now enables mid-to-enterprise business organizations to transform their on-premise NAS into secure, private cloud file sharing solutions, with end-to-end syncing between mobile devices and corporate NAS. Transporter supports all the most prevalent mobile platforms via its Transporter Mac App, Transporter Windows App, Transporter iOS App and Transporter Android App. All Transporters are compatible with one another, so businesses can easily leverage any combination of appliances to achieve their file sync and share objectives for optimal efficiency and business advantage.

The survey, summarized in a new infographic, was conducted in the second quarter of 2015 across multiple industries, including finance, education, government, manufacturing, computer software and healthcare.

Study respondents were IT personnel who play a role in FSS purchase decisions in companies of more than 1,000 employees.
