In a report from Dell’Oro Group, a source for market information about the telecommunications, networks, and data center IT industries, Gen 6 FC revenue is expected to exceed $1 billion by 2020 as 32Gb FC switch port shipments are expected to eclipse over half the market by then.

“The FC SAN market is about to go through a significant upgrade to Gen 6 FC switches and adapters as Brocade Communication Systems, Cisco Systems, Emulex Corporation (Broadcom), and QLogic (soon the be acquired by Cavium) begin to offer next generation products,” said Alan Weckel, VP, Dell’Oro Group. “Storage is going through a significant shift towards flash and the increased speed of 32Gb/s as well as new features will make Gen 6 FC a compelling upgrade for many enterprise customers.“
