2TB RDX for IBM 7226 Model 1U3 Multi-Media Enclosure

IBM Corp.‘ System Storage now offers a higher capacity RDX drive cartridge feature to the list of RDX options.

The new 2.0 TB RDX drive cartridge offers up to twice the capacity of the other drive cartridges available on the IBM System Storage 7226 Model 1U3 Multi-Media Enclosure.

It attaches to specific POWER systems, Blade severs, BladeCenter models, and PureFlex systems.

The following features are included on the 7226:

  • Serial Attach SCSI (SAS) half-high LTO-5 (HHLTO5) and half-high LTO-6 (HHLTO6) tape drives, and DVD-RAM SATA/SAS features in the IBM 7226 may attach individually to an external SAS HBA (HBA) on a POWER server or IBM BladeCenter.
  • SAS device features in the 7226 storage enclosure are supported on AIX, IBMi, and Linux OSs.
  • IBM 7226 Quad Cable feature allows the attachment of up to four SAS devices on a single POWER system HBA port. POWER6 and POWER7 SAS HBAs are feature numbers 5278, 5901, and 5912. The POWER8 SAS HBA are feature numbers EJ10, EJ11, and EL10.
  • HHLTO5 and HHLTO6 FC Tape Drive features attach to some POWER7 and POWER8 systems and to PureFlex Blade servers through an external FC HBA (POWER6 and POWER7 system feature numbers 5273 and 5735, or POWER8 feature number EL2N) on the server.
  • USB RDX3 removable disk drives, including the new 2.0 TB RDX, 7226 may attach to an internal USB port on POWER6, POWER7, POWER8, and IBM PureFlex systems, or on BladeCenters.
  • DVD-RAM devices in the 7226 may attach to POWER6, POWER7, and POWER8 systems.
  • USB device features in the 7226 storage enclosure are supported on AIX, IBMi, and Linux operation systems.
  • An external USB HBA (POWER6 and POWER7 system feature number 2728 or POWER8 feature number EC45) are also available on an POWER6, POWER7, and POWER8 servers.

The 7226 is designed to deliver simplified data transfer options between systems with similar tape, RDX, and DVD-RAM drive archival storage and retrieval technologies.

Mandatory software
The enclosure is compatible with most POWER6, POWER7, and POWER8 systems, as well as BladeCenter models (PS700, PS701, PS702, PS703, and PS704), and PureFlex systems that offer current level AIX, IBMi, and LINUX OSs.

System support of IBM 7226 features
POWER Systems support all SAS, USB, and FC tape drives, DVD-RAM, and RDX removable drive features on the 7226.

PureFlex systems support FC tape drive and RDX Removable drive feature options offered on the 7226.

BladeCenters support DAT160, HHLTO5, and HHLTO6 SAS tape drive features, and also support attachment of RDX removable drive features on the 7226. BladeCenters do not support DVD-RAM device or LTO FC tape drive attachment.

PureFlex systems support attachment of HHLTO5 and HHLTO6 FC tape drive features, DVD-RAM USB drive features, and RDX removable drive features. PureFlex systems do not support SAS tape drives and DVD-RAM devices.
