Hitachi, Ltd announced the consolidated financial results for the second quarter ended September 30, 2014.
Concerning storage only, the company reported revenue of ¥114 billion ($960 million) in storage solutions for the period, a yearly increase of 10%. For 1H14, it was ¥218 billion, up 9% compared to 1H13.
The Japanese company forecasts ¥460 billion for FY14 or up 5% from FY13.
These good results are in contrast with the most recent report from IDC, Worldwide Quarterly Disk Storage Systems Tracker for 3Q14. The IDC analysts attribute $477 million in revenue for Hitachi in external disk storage systems, a much lower figure because it covers part of Hitachi storage activity. But how to explain that that they publish a yearly decrease of 9.4% compared to the official percentage of +10% for the same two periods (look at the last page of this PDF document)? It’s really surprising as market’s analysts generally calculate their results based on figured coming from the vendors. A problem of communication?
