US Large Healthcare Company, Not Revealed, Adding Violin Flash Storage Once More

Adding 7700 flash storage to increase performance and capacity

Violin Memory, Inc. announced that one of the largest healthcare and dental plan companies in the US has added its 7700 Flash Storage Platform (FSP) to its existing Violin all flash array deployment.

With the addition of the 7700 FSP, the customer has increased the performance and capacity of its storage, allowing for quicker processing of insurance claims. The 7700 FSP also allows the company to take advantage of Violin’s stretch cluster feature, ensuring BC.

The company originally chose Violin’s all flash array solution to accelerate the association’s business-critical claims-processing application, as well as to migrate all tier 1 workloads from a mainframe environment to a modern infrastructure deployed around SQL and VMware. Unsure of its existing ability to provide HA and knowing that the failure of primary data was not an option, the customer turned once again to Violin. When deployed in clusters, the FSP offers HA functionality through what is known as stretch clustering. Combining the benefits of HA and DR, the stretch cluster functionality allows customers to deploy a HA solution between two geographically separated sites. In case of failure on one site, the identical data is available at the other site, as the data sets are constantly synchronized.

One of the first things that customers think about relative to flash storage is performance – how fast can flash accelerate my applications,” said Kevin DeNuccio, president and CEO, Violin. “While I agree that performance is key to every new storage purchase decision, this customer understood our new data service offerings, including data protection and instant failover, just as flash was becoming mainstream in their IT infrastructure.

Providing flash storage without full software capability isn’t enough in today’s competitive storage market,” DeNuccio added. “Our customers are focused on being able to maintain BC as they look to maximize their investment in storage and transition to the all silicon data center.
