Hewlett-Packard Development company, L.P. announced that the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has selected the ATLAS Consortium to enhance its users’ experience.

In a four-year deal, ATLAS – a collaborative team led by HP and including Fujitsu Ltd, Airbus and CGI France SAS – will modernize the MoD’s Defence Information Infrastructure (DII) and transform its core services, enabling 200,000 users to securely access information anytime and anywhere.

I want to deliver information capabilities that are a force multiplier for both the business space and battle space through closer strategic alignment with industry partners,” said Mike Stone, chief digital and information officer, MoD. “By September 2016, our users will experience information capabilities that are tailored to their mission, location and role, and that can be accessed at the right time, through a choice of devices, over a cost-effective, modern and adaptable infrastructure.

Under the MoD’s GV1 Reset program, ATLAS will deliver flexible, sustainable enterprise-wide information capabilities based on a combination of HP Enterprise Services for Microsoft Office 365 and HP Helion Managed Private Cloud.

The MoD’s workplace infrastructure based on HP technology will give users the ability to subscribe, amend or remove services via a modern, intelligent, persona-based catalogue. This will allow them to view the costs of services and pay for them on a flexible consumption basis, giving better transparency, increasing control and reducing spend whilst putting the user at the centre of their workplace.

Standardized workplace management systems, smart self-help and secure mobility services will allow MoD staff to access the DII through a wider variety of devices and networks, streamlining how they interact with information and process. HP Unified Communications Services based on Microsoft Skype for Business will make video-conferencing, immediate online meetings and instant messaging available on all MoD devices including capability desktops, virtualised desktops, tablets and phones.

Forward thinking organizations like the MoD understand that the workplace is everywhere,” said Howard Hughes, SVP, enterprise services EMEA, HP. “The solution HP and its partners developed for the UK MoD will increase workplace productivity by enabling high-quality connectivity for users, in any place, on any device.
