Proact IT Norge AS was awarded the contract as it showcased the best expertise and was able to add the most technical value.

The Norwegian Tax Administration is subordinate to the Ministry of Finance and is responsible for updating the National Population Register, and also for ensuring that taxes and duties are determined and paid correctly. The administration is currently working on major modernisation projects. These will be run on converged infrastructure devices supplied by Proact. Initially, the contract is worth around NOK 12 million, plus maintenance and support.

The solutions will be implemented with the assistance of Proact’s advisors. Acceptance testing of the solution will be taking place in April, and everything should be in production by mid-June. The first projects to be run in the converged environment involve electronic communication with employers, A-meldingen (an electronic form for reporting income and employment circumstances), and modernisation of basic data. The former will simplify and improve employers’ reporting of employment and income conditions, while the latter will provide simpler, more effective reporting of control functions and tax returns (basic data) from third parties such as banks, housing companies and insurance companies.

The new solution will handle reporting of more than 120 million transactions a year for A-meldingen alone, with associated demands in terms of performance, uptime and quality. The IT environment to handle this must be robust, reliable and flexible. These are extremely critical components, and they will be crucial if we are to succeed in simplifying the work of businesses, other taxpayers and public authorities,” says Jan Tore Ajer, project manager, Norwegian Tax Administration.

Proact had the solution which met our requirements most accurately. They were able to supply the most capacity for our money, and they demonstrated sound expertise. Functionality, price, expertise and delivery times were all deciding factors. The new solutions will simplify our administration and give us fast access to sufficient performance,” says Ajer.

The solutions from Proact will be used as a platform for all new projects, and at the same time Ajer is hoping that the Administration will also be able to run the huge, Oracle-based case management systems on converged devices in the future.

The market for converged infrastructure services is about to take off, and we are seeing heavy demand for these. Companies of all sizes are looking for new approaches and have begun to realise what advantages such devices bring,” says Eirik Pedersen, MD, Proact.

Being awarded such a major contract on the basis of these criteria is a huge achievement on the part of our staff. It is also rewarding to know that we are helping to ensure that solutions which will benefit the entire business community will have such an efficient, flexible and secure IT harbour,” says Pedersen.

FlexPod is the central component in the consignment. These solutions comprise everything needed to supply IT as a service: servers, storage, network equipment and software. The technology is taken from the top shelf at Cisco, NetApp and VMware.

Pedersen emphasises that Proact has FlexPod expertise, with extensive experience and certifications.
