R&S SpycerBox Cell from Rohde & Schwarz DVS Augmented Workflows of Arri Media

ARRI Media GmbH has added an Rohde & Schwarz DVS GmbH‘ SpycerBox Cell to its workflow.

This scalable storage solution delivers speed and stability throughout the work process of the Munich-based company. The modular setup of the SpycerBox Cell enables ARRI Media to adapt and expand its storage capacity to meet changing requirements.

Since 2015, the SpycerBox Cell (36TB, space-saving 1U chassis) has augmented the workflows of ARRI Media, the film technology and service provider, which is headquartered in Munich.

The modular SpycerBox Cell is a centralized storage solution for content from individual sources in various resolutions (e.g. 4K and UHD) and frame rates (up to high frame rate material). It has proven beneficial that DVS storage solutions optimally save the RAW formats of ARRI cameras, including that of the ARRI Alexa 65. The connected grading and mastering systems can access the storage system simultaneously. The SpycerBox Cell can be scaled and cascaded to easily store the large data volumes of high-resolution material. As a result, the solution makes it easy to implement data-intensive workflows.

The system was also equipped with Spycer data management software to enable monitoring and administration of large data volumes within the company. The implemented descattering tool makes it possible to optimally position frame sequences and clips on the storage systems and have them available for further processing.
