OWC give direct equipment support to such initiative, providing a suite of OWC’s storage solutions to help give them greater capability to educate and inspire.

Teaching, creating, inspiring and building – nationwide.
The John Lennon Bus is a mobile recording studio, sound-stage, and video production facility providing opportunities for young people to create original music, videos, apps, and live broadcast productions. With the assistance of three on-board engineers and a parade of celebrity mentors, students learn how to write, perform, record and produce original songs, music videos and documentaries.

Making difference through technology.
Underpinning the latest Mac Pro powerhouse that drives the Bus’s mobile studio are twelve OWC Mercury Electra 960GB SSDs in two fast RAID-0 configurations that work as the primary production drives to deliver reliable, rugged travel-safe operation, flexibility and performance.

According to engineer Bryce Quig-Hartman, using SSDs gives them several advantages: “Sure, they’re fast, but also we just can’t use spinning disks while the bus is in motion and we need to be working while the bus is in motion, so having SSD’s is a necessity and that’s something that OWC has been able to provide.

Thanks to OWC, the engineers no longer need to shut down while the bus is moving, meaning they can get more work done, quicker and give greater opportunities to more students.

Alongside the Electra SSD’s, the crew also utilizes the portable performance of the OWC Mercury Elite Pro mini portable storage solution, which Bryce describes as their ‘bread and butter.’ These give the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus team flexibility to work anywhere. Bus-powered and robust, the Elite Pro mini is the solution for mobile production workflows requiring capacity, speed, mobility, and reliability. The bus crew also uses the pocket-sized, bus-powered OWC Mercury On-The-Go Pro as a portable work drive and for backup duty, when needed.

To cap it off, the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus is also using OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual minis in RAID-1 mode for reliable long-term backup as well as the awesome power of the ThunderBay 4 in projects requiring the high-bandwidth capabilities of Thunderbolt 2.
