LDC has a 50-year legacy of delivering reliable IT solutions to the university and underwent a major reorganization to enhance its capabilities for delivering quality assured services adapted to the University’s requirements.

The constantly rising demand for capacity and performance in databases and other applications called for procurement, where Proact was selected to deliver an IT infrastructure based on a combination of flash memory and conventional disk storage. The total raw capacity is 252TB.

We considered the options to either continue adding to an existing storage system or investing in an all-new solution,” says Johan Johansson, IT manager, Lund University and GM, LDC. “We learned that both financial and performance matters favored the latter alternative, and we now get a powerful platform to build on for the future.

Using flash storage and – in this context – a mass of CPU power, the solution provides a performance boost compared to previous generations storage systems. LDC expects access times in the one millisecond range.

LDC is one of the most exciting customers we know of in our region, an organisation which is very much at the leading edge of IT delivery to its clients,” says Dan Mårtensson, site manager, Proact. “LDC demonstrates that it is not just a matter of time before flash storage will become the standard choice for data centres, but that this transition is already underway. This is why it is so exciting for us at Proact to be part of this journey, while we recognize LDC’s implementation a confirmation of a competitive offering, as we have submitted the winning bid for another significant public procurement.
