LA Kings Score Hat-Trick With Fujifilm Dternity

Meeting team's vast video storage need

Fujifilm Recording Media U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Fujifilm Corporation, a manufacturer of storage media, shared with the storage community a case study of how the Los Angeles Kings are using Dternity to meet the team’s vast video storage needs and adapt to an evolving set of business demands.

As Aaron Brenner, director of production for the LA Kings, began evaluating the team’s storage needs, he became impressed with the simplicity and scalability of Dternity. Since Brenner and his team’s expertise are in video production, and not IT, they were attracted to the ease of configuration and management of Dternity.

Dternity was easy to digest and the concept was simple, even for a production-focused group with no formal IT training,” said Brenner. “The learning curve for our non-technical staff was very short. In fact, we set it up on a Friday and by Monday we were up and running.

According to Brenner, the franchise was not generating or storing a vast amount video until recently. During the entire 2007/2008 season, the LA Kings produced approximately 100GB of data. However, over the last several years, they began producing video and other content at a rapid pace. During the 2011/2012 season, when the LA Kings won the Stanley Cup, they generated approximately 7TB of data per week. Today, the team stores almost 32-35TB of new data per season.

Since initial deployment, Dternity has delivered results for LA Kings organization,:
