Caterpillar Dealer William Adams Implements CommVault Simpana

Reducing data backup "by one third" with de-dupe

CommVault Systems, Inc. announced that Australian Caterpillar equipment dealer, William Adams Pty Ltd, has implemented its Simpana 10 software to transform the company’s IT infrastructure.

The company improved backup, recovery and protection of critical business data, while increasing disk cost savings from the previous financial year. It was also able to complete a data centre consolidation project in less time than anticipated and reduced its datacentre locations from three to two.

The Simpana 10 platform will provide William Adams with visibility into and management capability of all corporate data sets via a single, modular data management platform. Previously the company was challenged to verify that all of its data was being effectively backed up because of the complexities inherent in its legacy four-solution approach. The single platform Simpana solution has permitted to consolidate all backup, recovery, deduplication and archive requirements, eliminating the need for its multiple-vendor, multi-point legacy solution approach.

James Meehan, IS infrastructure and operations manager, William Adams, stated that implementing the centralised solution has removed significant complexity, while increasing business confidence in the ability to recover data.

Overcoming risk and having confidence in the mature capabilities of our backup and recovery solutions to survive disasters is essential, demonstrably improving our risk profile,” said Meehan. “For our company, the most important criteria in choosing CommVault were reliability and the guaranteed security of critical business information.

The backup component of the solution means that it is possible to restore in minutes an individual email file that previously might have taken days, while the archive capability “enables us to reduce storage costs and ensure that we are not backing up the same data twice.

It’s not that we didn’t know where our data was beforehand, it’s just that we weren’t using the most efficient or effective ways to back it up, access or protect it. CommVault’s reputation for its single software platform approach, enablement, and professional services model matched our delivery needs precisely and we were impressed with how well they were able to modernise our complex data management,” Meehan continued.

CommVault has been working with many organisations across AsiaPac, such as William Adams, that are committed to transforming their data management infrastructure to find better ways to discover, protect and manage their data and gain new insights from it. William Adams’ IT transformation will greatly benefit the company and its customers by increasing the efficiency of its backup and recovery operations and gaining secure access to information throughout the enterprise,” said Rick Theiler, VP, sales, AsiaPac theatre, CommVault.

William Adams is a Caterpillar dealership, providing new and used Cat machines, rentals, parts and services to the construction, mining, quarrying, and agricultural industries in Victoria and Tasmania. To support equipment provision through after-sales service, Iit has invested in IT, field service and workshop equipment and tooling to ensure best practice operations for customers.
