Smartoptics FC Distance Extension Solutions Approved by EMC

Following lab testing

Smartoptics AS a supplier of optical networking solutions, announced that its FC distance extension solutions have been approved by EMC Corporation

A range of distance extension solutions have undergone independent E-Labs testing by EMC and have been verified as supported with EMC-based SANing infrastructure equipment. The testing initiative was designed to foster interoperability in a multi-vendor environment and simplify the RPQ process. The products tested offer a lower cost alternative to traditional transponder based DWDM solutions.

The solutions approved by EMC include active and embedded C/DWDM systems as well as M-Series semi-active WDM platform. The M-Series platform is an approach to embedded networking that combines the cost effectiveness of a passive mux/demux with the features of a traditional DWDM system. The distance extension solutions enable users to generate cost savings over competing DWDM transporting methods which are complicated and expensive. Companies can move large volumes of data between sites up to 100km apart with plug and play solutions whilst simultaneously reducing capital and operational expenditure.

Sean, sales director, Smartoptics said: “We are delighted to have our distance extension solutions approved by EMC. This approval enables customers to connect their data centres in a cost efficient manner with no compromise on QoS or bandwidth. It also removes the lengthy Request for Product Qualification (RPQ) process required when an unsupported configuration is needed as part of a solution.
