Areca: Backplane Solution 12Gb SAS External RAID Controllers

Areca Technology Corporation announced the ARC-8008 a 12/16/24-bays external 12Gb SAS RAID redundant controllers for customized backplane.

The ARC-8008 RAID controllers offer a performance external storage solution, enabling OEM customers to build a secure RAID array with their own enclosure.

It incorporates onboard 1.2GHz dual core ROC storage processor and one 240-pin DIMM socket for single rank,1Rx8, upgrade to 8GB DDR3-1866 or 8GB DDR3-1600, duak rank, 2Rx8, ECC SDRAM to deliver true hardware RAID. The 12Gb SAS is designed for backward compatibility with 6Gb and 3Gb SAS and SATA HDDs. Regardless of the drive speed, 12Gb SAS RAID controllers will provide R/W performance improvements for the performance-hungry database and IT applications.

The ARC-8008 family of enterprise controllers come with host connectivity choices of 2-port/4-port 16Gb FC 2-port 12Gb SAS or 2-port 10Gb iSCSI. The different host interface boards make ARC-80008 RAID controllers well suited for professionals who need large capacity and performance with connectivity. The optional flash-based backup module (FBM) provides power to the cache if it contains data not yet written to the drives when power is lost. ARC-8008 also supports traditional Lithium-ion battery backup module (BBM) to protect cached data on RAID controller.

Configuration and monitoring can be managed either through the LCD control panel (optional), RS232 port or LAN port. The firmware-embedded several available RAID managers include internet browser, CLI Telnet, API, SMTP and SNMP via a LAN port. The ArcSAP Quick Manager is a remote management interface for configuration, monitoring and management of Areca RAID controllers.
