Zetta.net Launches CloudDRaaS

With ability to spin up and run physical and virtual servers and applications directly from cloud

Zetta.net (Zetta, Inc.) announced availability of CloudDRaaS, a cloud DR-as-as-Service (DRaaS) solution that can spin up physical and virtual servers and applications in their native network environment from the cloud, enabling BC and DR-as-a-service in one solution at a fraction of the cost of current manual and time-consuming approaches.

Unlike appliance-based offerings, CloudDRaaS offers true DR-as-a-service that can spin up servers and applications in the cloud, without requiring local hardware that may be unavailable following a disaster. Company’s 100% cloud-based DRaaS enables businesses and MSPs to run their virtualized native network environment in the cloud for BC.

CloudDRaaS is designed to support both physical and virtual servers, addressing a common DRaaS limitation of requiring 100% virtual environments. Company’s recent State of Backup survey found that fewer than half of businesses had an IT environment that was at least 70% virtualized. The majority reported a heterogeneous environment with under two-thirds of servers virtualized, meaning that virtual-only DRaaS approaches are incompatible with the needs of most businesses.

First-generation DR solutions that provide recovery-as-a-service are priced out of the reach for most businesses and take months to deploy. CloudDRaaS comes at a fraction of the cost, making it affordable to businesses and MSPs of any size. And with patented WAN optimization built-in to transfer up to 5TB in 24 hours, organizations can become DRaaS-ready in as little as a few hours, minimizing business interruption during a large DR effort.

Traditionally, DR has been an expensive and complex process that required an appliance or significant professional services to assure minimal downtime is experienced during an unexpected event,” said Liz Conner, research manager, storage systems, IDC. “Zetta.net is delivering a cost-effective DR-as-a-Service solution that delivers a virtualized native network environment in the cloud without the need for an appliance. As a result, enterprises and MSPs can continue working following a significant disaster with minimal interruption.

CloudDRaaS functionality:

  • Native network ecosystem virtualization: Run multiple servers, applications, native network environments and multi-platform OS in the cloud, without the need for an appliance.

  • Physical or virtual: Boot physical or virtual systems on demand in the cloud via a VPN or RDP connection.

  • Faster time-to-DRaaS: Rapidly transfer DRaaS-ready server images to the cloud with built-in patented WAN optimization technologies.

  • Quarterly DR testing: Spin up and test systems quarterly and receive reports to ensure disaster-readiness.

  • Data recovery-as-a-service: Replicate native file system and map as a local drive in the cloud to recover individual files or entire server images.

  • Affordable pricing: Spend a fraction of the price of SunGard Availability Services and IBM Global Services.

The current DRaaS approaches include data recovery of files, appliance-based recovery-as-a-service, virtual-only DRaaS and traditional DRaaS that is only affordable for larger enterprises,” explained Chris Schin, VP products, Zetta.net. “These approaches don’t give most businesses true DRaaS to keep their entire business operational after a disaster. With our new cloudDRaaS solution, disaster-stricken customers can virtualize their native network environment in the cloud, keeping business running without breaking the bank.”

Customers will pay a monthly fee per DRaaS-enabled server, which includes quarterly testing to ensure disaster readiness, and an additional daily cost during spin up. The no-hardware approach to fully-functional servers in the cloud allows employees of disaster-affected businesses to continue working with minimal interruption, avoiding costly extended downtime.

CloudDRaaS solution is available.
