This solution provides DR capabilities for cloud data centers that employ an open architecture. In addition, the solution helps telecom operators and large-sized enterprises provide DR services for tenants.

As enterprise IT construction experienced rapid development over the past years, enterprises have become increasingly dependent on IT systems, and they put a strong emphasis on the construction of service continuity DR systems to ensure the stable and continuous running of IT systems. Customers want DR construction and maintenance to be simpler, systems to allow for compatibility with and re-use of old devices, and DR resources to be automatically allocated as a service. In addition, the IT field is experiencing the third transformation with cloud computing at the core. Characterized by openness and convergence, OpenStack-based cloud data centers have attracted an increasing number of enterprise customers and have been actively put into use. The construction of cloud data centers as well as open IT system architectures and ecosystems requires DR capabilities to be provided for cloud data centers and DR to be provided as a service for tenants.

To provide comprehensive DR for cloud data centers that employ the OpenStack architecture, the Cloud DR solution, released at the Huawei Cloud Congress 2015, incorporate company’s mature DR Data Center solution (Active-Active Mode), that was released in September 2014, as well as cloud management platform ManageOne, DR management software BC Manager, storage service platform OceanStor DJ, OpenStack interface extensions, virtualization, active-active storage feature HyperMetro, and VM backup software eBackup. Company’s Cloud DR solution provides DR services for tenants through an operation management platform provided by the company or a third party. Tenants or service departments can configure a DR service level agreement (SLA) such as active-active, active-standby, and backup in a self-service manner, shortening the DR construction time from months to minutes. Service departments can also perform DR drills on their own, simplifying maintenance and minimizing the RTO.

The company has maintained rapid growth in the cloud computing and data center fields. By the end of August 2015, the company had constructed a total of 660 data centers across the globe, 255 of which are cloud data centers. As OpenStack keeps receiving popular recognition, Huawei is increasing its investments in OpenStack.

Company’s cloud DR solution has been developed through Huawei’s long-term accumulation in the cloud data center field and years of R&D in service continuity DR.

Sun Zhenjian, GM, IT data center DR solution, Huawei, said: “Cloud computing technology is becoming increasingly mature. DR solutions that employ new architectures and use cloud resource pools are evolving along with the advancement of technology and production capabilities. Huawei’s DR Data Center Solution (Active-Active Mode) has gained a lot of recognition from customers, which is a testament to Huawei’s dedication to constructing a superior DR ecosystem. Huawei’s Cloud DR solution is the industry’s first solution that implements DR across data centers based on the OpenStack architecture. This solution demonstrates Huawei’s R&D capabilities in cloud computing, storage, networking, and data centers. In the future, Huawei will be dedicated to safeguarding the stability and continuity of IT systems for customers using public clouds, private clouds, and hybrid clouds.
