By 4D-DC, Hybrid Cloud Solution Based on Infortrend RAID

Expected to reach 200 VMs and 4 million peak IO/s within 12 months

4D-DC (4D Data Centres LTD), a cloud, colocation and connectivity provider, introduced its cloud platform 4D cloud 2.0 based on Infortrend Technology, Inc.’s storage solutions.

Expecting a strong demand for the new cloud platform, 4D-DC aims to reach 200 VMs and 4-million peak IO/s in data centre for its new 4D cloud 2.0 platform within the first year.

What sets the new cloud platform apart are the storage solutions provided by Infortrend. The solutions met 4D-DC’s requirements for scalability, resilience and performance. The automated storage tiering function especially impressed 4D-DC. It utilizes the different types of drives (SSD, SAS, NL-SAS drive), allowing 4D cloud 2.0 to satisfy clients requiring high speed storage access, while the others may continuously store backup without interruption.

Infortrend has provided us with a storage solution that can cope with the rapidly changing demands of a fast growing cloud platform. Now, we can provide our clients with even better connectivity and cloud solutions,” said David Barker, founder and technical director, 4D-DC.

4D Cloud 2.0, the latest offering from 4D-DC, provides cloud hosting solutions with lexibility, security, speed and ease of use. With one million peak IO/s and 40 VMs initially, 4D-DC expects it to evolve to over 4 million peak IO/s and to 200 VMs within the first year of launch. To meet such huge demands, the main technical challenge was to expand whenever the scalable demand is there and at the same time, maintain and improve the performance and flexibility of the storage solution. This was especially important, in terms of the support for storage solution.

The 4D cloud platform was built on an intricate infrastructure, including Dell servers, Brocade switch fabric and Infortrend RAID storage. And as with the nature of a cloud platform, it offers applications such as SQL databases, telephone systems, and video streaming.
