Symform End-Of-Life – Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Why is Quantum discontinuing the Symform service?
Answer: Quantum is discontinuing the Symform service due to its strategic business focus on enterprises.

When is Symform going to be discontinued and become inaccessible to users?
The Symform service is scheduled to be shut down on July 31, 2016.

What will happen to my account/files after the sunset date?
After July 31, 2016, all Symform accounts will become inaccessible and all files will be deleted from our servers. While your local data will not be deleted by this change, it is recommended that all users find an alternative solution to back up their data before July 31, 2016.

Can I still access my files between now and July 31, 2016?
Yes. You will have full access to all of your files and all of the functionality/features until June 30, 2016. Between July 1 and July 31, our service will become read-only mode and Symform clients will stop syncing files to the cloud. You will still have access to your files. After July 31, the Symform service will be completely decommissioned and all user data will be deleted.

I have an active subscription account for the Symform service; what will happen to my account?
It depends on your subscription plan:

  • Monthly subscription: If you are on a monthly subscription, you will not be charged for service in the month of June. All subscription charges will be stopped in June 2016. You will have until July 31, 2016, to download your data from symform.com.
  • Annual subscription: If you are on an annual subscription, you will stop being charged for the service in June 2016, and will be issued a prorated refund for the remainder of your subscription. You will hear from us within a few weeks about your refund. Please let us know if you haven’t heard from us within a few weeks. You will have until July 31, 2016, to backup your data.

I’m a free Symform user; what will happen to my account?
Your account will remain active until July 31, 2016, at which point the service will be discontinued and all files and folders will be deleted from our servers. While it will not automatically delete your local data, it is recommended that you find an alternative solution to backup your data, prior to July 31.

What should I do to protect my data prior to the Symform service becoming unavailable after July 31,2016?
As a best practice for data protection, you should always have a backup copy of your data, either in an external HDD or an online storage service. As a replacement for Symform, consider one of the various online storage services in the marketplace.

What online storage or backup service should I consider using in place of Symform?
There are various third-party, cloud-based backup, sync and storage solution providers that can be used to protect your data, including: Apple iCloud, Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Storj, Sia, CrashPlan and ElephantDrive.

What should I do with the storage spaces I am contributing? Can I delete them?
Please keep contributing your storage until July 31, 2016 to make sure all the users in the Symform community can save their data safely. You will receive specific instructions on how to delete the storage that you contributed to, on the Symform forum.

Where do I get more information about how to retrieve my data if I’ve accidentally deleted it or it is not available on my computer anymore?
To help you retrieve your data if you accidentally deleted it on your computer, there is information available here.

Where can I find information to help me address any issues I may have with Symform?
There is detailed information at the Symform forum that is available at https://community.symform.com.

I still can’t find any information to help address my particular issue. How can I find help?
Use the Submit A Request online form to get help with your particular issue. A support representative will be in contact as soon as possible.
