Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, the largest acute care hospital in the Seacoast region of New Hampshire and Southern Maine (U.S.), needed to upgrade its legacy IBM Tivoli backup system as its old infrastructure did not allow them to fine tune backup and recovery operations of its physical and virtual infrastructures.

Samsung Heavy Industries, a world-class shipbuilding, construction and engineering giant, to not only upgrade its existing backup infrastructure, required the highest level of backup and recovery due to its heavy use of very large CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) files.

Sang-Yeon Kim, manager of the CAD development team at Samsung Heavy Industries, said: "Since the 61 TBs of CAD/CAM data stored in our infrastructure has increased by 50 percent annually, driven by the recent boom in the heavy industry sector, the enormous volume of CAD/CAM files has increased management complexity and has been the cause of frequent operational failures as well as a hindrance to effective backup of data.
