Tandberg Storage ASA, a developer and supplier of industry standard half height LTO tape drives, will begin volume deliveries of the TS1600 half height LTO4 tape drive. The TS1600 offer a compressed capacity of 1.6 terabytes on a single LTO4 data cartridge. The Ultra160 SCSI interface provides a maximum data throughput of 576 gigabyte per hour when using hardware data compression. The TS1600 is backward read/write compatible with LTO3 and read compatible with LTO2 media offer scalable investment protection. The TS1600 is designed for the 'green IT' environment offering the lowest power consumption of any LTO tape drive on the market today providing customers with the best total cost of ownership.

The Tandberg TS1600 half height LTO4 tape drive offers a range of features for improved reliability and increased performance. With a large 128 MB buffer, a wider range of adaptive transfer rates and its highly effective in-line data-compression, the TS1600 tape drive is designed for high performance in various host environments. The Tandberg TS1600 HH LTO4 tape drive has been designed for today's 'green IT' environment by its best in class power management. The TS1600 has operational power consumption below 13 Watts and less than 6 watts when idle. In addition to providing an energy cost savings, the low power consumption improves the drives reliability and increases its MTBF as the drive produces less heat. Utilizing the Ultra 160 SCSI interface, customers have the benefit of utilizing their existing network infrastructure and simple upgrade from other tape technologies and /or lower capacities.

Availability
The Tandberg Storage TS1600 half height LTO4 SCSI tape drive will be available from Tandberg Storage from mid May. Furthermore, Tandberg Storage will also release TS1600 with a serial attached SCSI interface as well as a hardware data encryption feature in October this year.
