IBM LTFS Library V2.1
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on Fri, July 15th, 2011
Enables read, write, search and indexing metadata on LTOs.
IBM System Storage Linear Tape File System Library Edition
V2.1
enables read, write, search, and indexing of user metadata, as well as
access to the user data.
Metadata is the descriptive information about user data stored on a cartridge, and it enables searching and accessing of files via the graphical user interface of the operating system. With graphic search, read, and write, it can be easier to write and read files using LTFS Library Edition as compared to using traditional tape management software.
IBM LTFS Library Edition extends the capability of the IBM LTFS File Manager Single Drive Edition to the IBM System Storage TS2900 and TS3310 systems. LTFS Library Edition enables mounting of the library as a file system and indexing of LTO data, while the file manager manages the automation and provides operating system level access to all the content in the library. LTFS Library Edition is based on the LTFS format specification, enabling tape library cartridges to be 100% interchangeable with cartridges written with the open source, single drive versions of LTFS.
IBM LTFS Library Edition supports selected IBM tape library systems. This LTFS Library Edition software is required to be installed on customer server supporting RedHat Enterprise Linux R5.5 with connection and support of selected IBM tape libraries.
