FileTek Certifies Oracle T10000C Tape Drive

For use with StorHouse virtualization plattform

FileTek Ltd announced that, after completing thorough integration testing, it has certified the Oracle/StorageTek T10000C tape drive and associated erasable and WORM media for use with its StorHouse storage virtualization platform. The T10000C tape drive has a 5 TB native capacity and a 240 MB/second native throughput rate - capabilities that reduce the cost of enterprise storage while providing a fast media for backup and archive solutions. With the T10000C, fewer tape drives and cartridges can do the same amount of work.

"FileTek supports a data management strategy that guarantees all StorHouse customers unmatched data assurance and access at the lowest cost per petabyte of storage," commented Mark Seamans, executive vice president and chief technology officer of FileTek. "To that end, we are extremely pleased to certify the T10000C tape drive for use with StorHouse. T10000C throughput rate and storage capacity coupled with FileTek's innovative tape management features and direct access to data on tape will further enhance the return on investment, reliability, and sustained performance that StorHouse provides."

As a hardware-independent storage virtualization platform, StorHouse combines traditional/alternative storage devices and open system processors with storage management, relational database management, and file system interface software components. No application program interfaces are required. By virtualizing both storage and the file system, StorHouse maximizes the cost benefit that inexpensive media such as tape can provide.

StorHouse manages data and storage, thereby protecting users from the operational, mechanical, and procedural failures that occur with all hardware technology, including disk and tape. These failures result from data corruption, data loss, and impaired access or availability. StorHouse treats tape as a directly accessible storage layer just like disk. The system looks like a local disk or a mounted file share that users can access transparently. Because users can directly retrieve data on tape at the file or object level, there is no need for temporary disk space or partial restores to disk prior to access.
