Crossroads VTL Supports Windows and AIX

Alongside IBM Power Systems

Crossroads Europe announced that its virtual tape library (VTL) SPHiNX now allows end users to substantially reduce data recovery times and to optimise data backup processes in Microsoft Windows and AIX environments. The VTL already offered support for IBM Power Systems.

Crossroads’ SPHiNX, a platform that addresses critical data protection needs in a user-friendly, cost-effective and high-performance manner, reduces data management and storage complexities through an integrated end-to-end backup solution that combines the advantages of disk and tape backup.

Crossroads’ SPHiNX virtual tape library helps organisations increase the performance and storage capacity of their environments and can be scaled as required, growing in line with the storage needs of the business. By emulating tape, the SPHiNX VTL presents itself to the backup application as a physical tape library and is therefore very easy to integrate into existing applications, processes and sequences.

SPHiNX supports Help/Systems Robot/SAVE, IBM BRMS (Backup Recovery and Media Services) and other third-party applications. The integration of physical tape into the backup and restore infrastructure is also possible by connecting a physical tape library to the SPHiNX.

The alternate IPL (Initial Program Load) offered by SPHiNX for Power System environments, enables fast and reliable full system restores to give users the choice to minimise downtime and maximise productivity – with no impact on host resources. In addition, Crossroads’ SPHiNX allows the replication of data from different locations to a single control centre; an encryption option is also available.

Our SPHiNX VTL is an intelligent, innovative approach to backup and restore and the new generation brings a breath of fresh air and makes the combination of solutions and traditional tape for backups finally affordable”, said Bernd R. Krieger, Managing Director, Crossroads Europe. “Our VTL also leverages existing investments in disk and tape backup and it allows organisations to significantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of physical tape storage, offering flexible, scalable, high-performance and long-term data protection.”

Originally a specialist in the router business, Crossroads today enjoys several years of experience within tape backup environments and its routers manage more than 200,000 tape drives worldwide.

Crossroads will demonstrate its VTL SPHiNX at the COMMON Europe Conference in Stratford upon Avon, UK, from 12th to 15th June.
