Crossroads Releases an Encryption Software Module for Virtual TapeServer
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on Wed, March 26th, 2008
It encrypts and decrypts backup data being written on disk from one or more host servers.
SecureVTS is a simple, integrated and cost-effective encryption VTS module that is being sold under the Crossroads brand and distributed through Crossroads’ long-standing OEM-branded partnerships.
The Problem
The number of publicized security breaches over the
past 2 years has been alarming. Companies are facing an ever-increasing
challenge of protecting corporate assets and meeting compliance and
governance requirements. One such compliance standard is the Payment
Card Industry (PCI) standard which requires that data-at-rest be
encrypted per its security requirements - sections 3.4 through 3.6. This
means that both “data stored on removable
media,” such as on tape and optical devices,
as well as “data stored on disk”
arrays need to be encrypted. Companies must rapidly adopt new data
encryption solutions to protect their data in a cost-effective yet
scalable manner. Crossroads SecureVTS enables customers to meet specific
IT security compliance requirements as well as business objectives.
The Solution
VTS - A large percentage of companies use Crossroads
Virtual TapeServer (VTS) to ensure the rapid backup and recovery of
their data stored on disk. Crossroads VTS is a backup appliance
consisting of a server, disk storage and virtual tape software developed
by Crossroads. Crossroads’ Virtual TapeServer
(VTS) emulates industry standard tape drive(s) by storing data onto disk
as it would onto tape - but many times faster. Therefore, companies can
perform backups faster, reduce the backup windows, deliver fast data
restores and recoveries, and ensure that finding the right tape and file
to recover can be done rapidly as well as reduce media and backup labor
costs.
SecureVTS Encryption - SecureVTS is a software module for
Crossroads Virtual TapeServer (VTS) that encrypts and decrypts backup
data being written on disk from one or more host servers. As compliance
regulations and organizations highly recommend the encryption of
valuable data, SecureVTS provides Virtual TapeServer (VTS) users such as
banking institutions, stock exchanges, telecommunication and healthcare
companies with a robust encryption solution that deploys on existing
hardware. Crossroads uses industry standard 256-bit AES symmetric key
encryption and includes an integrated key server as well as key database
that support the full key management lifecycle.
“As world-leading enterprises such as banks, stock exchanges, telecommunication and healthcare companies already use Crossroads’ Virtual TapeServer,” said Rob Sims, CEO & President of Crossroads Systems, “Crossroads SecureVTS offers a simple, integrated and cost-effective modular data security solution that will increase sales opportunities to current VTS customers-base as well as enable new VTS/SecureVTS customers to meet encryption compliance requirements easily, in a resource and cost-effective manner."
