B&L Releases Archived Data Manager

A Web-based application that consolidates all historical backup catalogs

B&L Associates, Inc. announced the release of Archived Data Manager (ADM) -- a new, Web-based application that consolidates all historical backup catalogs, making managing and accessing offline archived data easier than ever before.

B&L's Archived Data Manager consolidates all the most popular tape backup catalogs-including Symantec's Veritas NetBackup-using B&L's patent-pending data extraction technology that loads information quickly and effortlessly.

With ADM, organizations have a single view of all their backup catalog information and can search for data based on a variety of criteria including backup application, backup server, backup client file name/date/time, and expiration date.

ADM also solves many of the challenges presented by the new Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) amendments for historical backup data. With ADM, electronically stored information (ESI) is readily available for discovery. The ability to search for data with file-level detail eliminates endless searches for archived backup files. Organizations are able to find the correct files quickly and dramatically reduce the amount of tapes sent out for content indexing.

"ADM helps companies support the new eDiscovery regulations by making archived backup data easily accessible," said Michael Kramer, vice president of sales and marketing at B&L. "And with ADM, tape content indexing required for eDiscovery is kept to an absolute minimum, saving time and significantly reducing costs."

Just as important, ADM alerts organizations to archived files that are ready for expiration-allowing organizations to reduce their historical data immediately while maintaining compliancy with federal and state regulations.

In addition, by consolidating historical backup catalogs, organizations can decommission old servers without losing access to the data they contain, saving valuable square footage in data centers while helping the environment.

"Companies are more concerned with environmental responsibility than ever before," added Mike Kramer. "The use of ADM significantly reduces energy consumption and, in turn, reduces a company's carbon footprint."
