QNAP Turbo NAS New Applications

Surveillance station and software package platform
Network attached storage (NAS) provider QNAP Systems, Inc. announced to support new applications Surveillance Station and software package platform on its Turbo NAS series.
QNAP NAS users can now upgrade the server firmware to version 2.1.0 or later to experience these new applications on NAS. The Surveillance Station is developed by the rock-solid network surveillance technology of QNAP to bring users truly secure IP-based surveillance system. Users can record the video of the up to two IP cameras to the QNAP NAS without using a PC. The live audio and video monitoring, playback, and camera configuration can all be carried out by the IE browser over the Internet. The QPKG is a convenient platform developed by QNAP to enable users to install lots of useful software applications, including IPKG software developed from the users and community worldwide, e.g. and By a few simple clicks and uploading on the user-friendly GUI, all these applications can be installed. There is no need to go through the hassles of any complicated programming.

"With the introduction of the Surveillance Station, we hope to bring our NAS users professional-grade yet easy-to-use network surveillance," said Mr. Laurent Cheng, Product Manager from QNAP. "The Surveillance Station offers versatile recording modes, including continuous recording, motion-detection recording, and schedule recording. A wide variety of camera brands are supported. By using particular models, users can use two-way video and audio monitoring and recording, wireless monitoring, and smart PTZ control to control the monitoring direction via the web interface."
Moreover, the QPKG software package platform allows users to download and install their desired software packages by simple clicking to fully utilize their NAS. As for the developers, the QPKG development framework guideline is easy and straightforward to follow that software developers can add extra functionalities quickly. The firmware is now available on QNAP web site for free upgrade. Currently Joomla!, phpMyAdmin, SlimServer (with Squeeze Center 7), and optware IPKG are available for installation.

New features of Turbo NAS firmware version 2.1.0:
- Surveillance Station: The Surveillance Station is a new application of the Turbo NAS series. It enables the users to monitor up to two IP cameras and record and play the video. All the functions and configurations can be carried out by the IE browser over the Internet regardless the location of the cameras. Users can flexibly define the recording settings: continuous recording, motion-detection recording, and schedule recording according to their security plan.

- QPKG support: The QPKG platform is introduced to enable users to install open source software applications by simple uploading the package file to the NAS. The following applications developed by QNAP users and community worldwide are now available:

- phpMyAdmin v2.11.4
- SSOTS 3.0 beta 13 (Now with Squeeze Center 7, courtesy of flipflip)
- MLDonkey v2.9.5
- Optware/ Ipkg v0.99.163
