QNAP Launches BitTorrent Certified NAS
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on Tue, June 10th, 2008
To replace PC-based download solutions and to offer more energy saving
QNAP Systems, Inc. announced its cooperation with BitTorrent, Inc. to enable a new powerful peer-to-peer (P2P) download engine embedded its All-in-One Turbo Network Attached Storage (NAS) series, the TS-109 II, TS-209 II and TS-409.
With significantly enhanced download performance, it aims to replace PC-based download solutions to offer a more energy-saving and environment-friendly option for all BitTorrent users. The DHT, TCP and UDP tracker protocols, and the encryption mode are all supported in the new download engine. The energy saving-designed TS-109 series and TS-209 series consumes only 14.4 W and 29.3W respectively in operation, which saves up to 80% of the power consumption of a PC server. Moreover, the QNAP Turbo NAS series is built on a Linux-embedded OS, which is more stable and less vulnerable to hacker or virus attacks. It is ideal for 24/7 operation and is the new choice for P2P download applications.

According to Mr. Shawn Shu, Vice President of QNAP, "Most people are used to using PCs for BitTorrent downloads. However, this can induce a high cost of energy consumption and, inevitably, intensifies global warming. As the new powerful download engine is introduced, we strongly believe that QNAP's energy-saving Linux-embedded NAS will become an ideal alternative solution to replace the PC as a download server as well as help protect the earth."
"BitTorrent is playing an integral role within the growing ecosystem of connected consumer electronic solutions in the home," said Doug Walker, CEO of BitTorrent, Inc. "Through our BitTorrent Certified program, we are teaming with QNAP and other device manufacturers to provide consumers a seamless way to access and enjoy the Internet's richest media – with or without a PC."
In order to enable users to manage their download tasks more easily, QNAP provides a user-friendly web Graphical User Interface (GUI) and an intelligent remote management software, QGet, for users to manage download tasks on multiple QNAP NAS servers remotely over the local network or the Internet.
About the QNAP NAS, TS-109, TS-209, and TS-409 series
The TS-109/209 II series adopts a high-performance Marvell 500MHz CPU and 256MB DDRII large memory, which are the best hardware specifications in the current Small office/ Home office (SOHO) NAS market.
The power consumption rate of the TS-109 series is less than 14.4W under normal operation and 6.6W at standby mode. The unique fanless design ensures quiet operation.
The TS-209 series is 2-bay hot swappable NAS, which supports RAID 0/1/JBOD disk configurations. The maximum storage capacity is 2TB.
The TS-409 Pro is a 4-bay hot swappable NAS, which supports exclusive Online RAID Capacity Expansion and Online RAID Level Migration. It is an ideal solution for mass storage, file download, and multimedia sharing center.
