NEC and Netezza Develop Data Warehouse Appliance

Combining software, blade server and storage platform

Netezza Corporation and NEC Corporation announced an agreement to jointly develop NEC-branded data warehouse appliances to be sold by NEC worldwide with an initial focus on Japan and the Asia Pacific region.

The new appliances will combine Netezza's streaming architecture and analytical database software with NEC's Blade server and Storage platforms. NEC will manufacture, sell and distribute the jointly developed data warehouse appliances, the first of which InfoFrame DWH Appliance is expected to be available in April 2010.

"Customer demand for complex query processing continues to soar as organizations look for ways to simplify their data warehousing while providing new levels of granularity from critical business information," said Yukio Itoh, senior vice president, Platforms at NEC. "This relationship further solidifies our longstanding work together with Netezza and allows NEC to bring to market new products that deliver fast, cost efficient analytic solutions across industries."

NEC has been marketing and selling Netezza's products since 2006, deploying data warehouse appliances to top firms throughout Japan.

"NEC is a major supplier of enterprise solutions in Japan and has a significant presence in other parts of the Asia Pacific region with a portfolio of customers that include some of the most prestigious organizations in the world," said Jim Baum, Netezza's president and chief executive officer. "NEC's choice to embed Netezza technology in their products and offer it through their sales channel is a significant endorsement and clearly extends Netezza's market reach."
