analysisJump right to our comments

With gateway options

The IBM System Storage N series Models C10, C20, C21, E11, and E21 are designed to provide:
  • High data availability and system-level redundancy
  • Support of concurrent block I/O and file serving over Ethernet and Fibre Channel (FC) SAN infrastructures
  • High throughput and fast response times
  • Support of enterprise customers requiring Network Attached Storage (NAS), with FC, or Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) connectivity
  • Attachment of FC, SAS, and SATA disk expansion units
The IBM System Storage N6210 storage controllers include the Model C20, an active/active dual-node base unit, and the Model C10, a single-node base unit. The IBM System Storage N6240 storage controllers include the Model C21, an active/active dual-node base unit, the Model E11, a single-node base unit, and the Model E21 which is the coupling of two Model E11s.

IBM System Storage N6210 storage controllers include:
  • Model C20 - An active/active dual-node base unit
  • Model C10 - A single-node base unit
IBM System Storage N6240 storage controllers include:
  • Model C21 - An active/active dual-node base unit
  • Model E11 - A single-node base unit
  • Model E21 - The coupling of two Model E11s
Exx models contain an I/O expansion module that provide additional PCIe slots. The I/O expansion is not available on Cxx models.

All five models are designed to provide fast data access, simultaneous multiprotocol support, expandability, upgradability, and low maintenance requirements.

These five models can be configured as gateways.

The IBM System Storage N series supports the EXN1000 SATA storage expansion unit, the EXN2000 and EXN4000 FC storage expansion units, and the EXN3000 SAS/SATA expansion unit. At least one storage expansion unit must be attached to the N series system.

Key prerequisites
  • The IBM System Storage N series requires FC, NFS, CIFS, or iSCSI protocol function.
Planned availability date
  • January 28, 2011 for N6240 and features
  • February 25, 2011 for N6210 and features
  • April 15, 2011 for model conversions for N6210 and N6240
