More Options for Wasabi Storage Builder for NAS v3.0
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on Fri, May 30th, 2008
At $495 for an entry four-drive system
"There are several key enhancements in our latest version of Storage Builder for NAS," said Jim Schrand, Wasabi's Vice President, Product Management. "We now offer support for SAS RAID controllers from both AMCC/3ware and LSI, which include RAID 6 capability and gives our customers the option to use SATA drives for low-cost, high-capacity storage or high-performance SAS drives for increased I/O throughput."
Feature upgrades and benefits of Wasabi Storage Builder for NAS v3.0 include:
- Apple Filing Protocol (AFP) is supported so that either AppleTalk or TCP/IP transports, or both, can be enabled for broad support of client platforms.
- Online Capacity Expansion (OCE) enables dynamic expansion of the NAS file system when the underlying RAID array is expanded; capacity can be expanded as storage needs increase.
- RAID Level Migration (RLM) enables migration from one RAID level to another as redundancy requirements change. RLM may be used in conjunction with OCE. For example, the user can migrate from a 2 drive RAID 1 to a 5 drive RAID 6 when adding 3 additional drives to the system.
- SCSI Enclosure Services (SES) provides environmental information for the NAS device and supports alerts and notifications based on system errors and warnings.
Full support for LSI RAID Controllers, including:
- LSI: SAS 8344ELP, SAS 8408E, SAS 8480E, SAS 8308ELP, SAS 8304ELP, SAS 8208ELP, SAS 8888ELP, SAS 8708ELP, SAS 8884E, SAS 8708E, SAS 8704ELP, SAS 8880EM2
- Intel: SRCSASRB, SRCSAS144E
- Supermicro: AOC-USAS-H4iR, AOC-USAS-H8iR
Full support for 3ware RAID Controllers, including 9xxx SATA, 9550SX SATA, 9650SE SATA-II, 9690SA SAS.
"Online Capacity Expansion and RAID Level Migration provide quick, easy, affordable facilities for investment protection," said Schrand. "Both OCE and RLM can be done on-the-fly, without having to take the NAS file system offline. That means it's still accessible by the clients while the migration is taking place."
