Update Version of Softek zDMF: a Data Mobility Service From IBM for z/OS
By Jean-Jacques Maleval, Thu, July 3rd, 2008
Enabling nondisruptive dataset-level migrations across vendor storage subsystems
Overview
IBM Data Mobility Services -- Softek asset license -- Softek zDMF is designed to support multi-vendor storage environments and can enable you to move datasets to any storage vendor array in a z/OS environment. This host-based migration software is storage vendor independent, allowing flexibility and vendor choice. With this software service, datasets can be migrated from small-capacity volumes and merged onto larger-capacity volumes, while applications remain online and available.
This software service can automatically update the volume metadata and catalog information, allowing you to accomplish tasks you were not previously able to do without scheduling system downtime. Unlike existing nondisruptive migration solutions that migrate data at a volume level, this software service addresses the business need to move individual datasets and is available in three forms:
- A software license
- A project engagement
- An element of a managed service agreement
IBM Data Mobility Services -- Softek asset license -- Softek zDMF has been updated to Version 3.1 and supports the following improvements:
- Extended Address Volumes (EAV) device support
- Redesign of the activation phase
- Single-volume dataset extent consolidation
- HyperSwap support
- Automated cleanup of original source datasets
- Improved scalability
- Audit trail enhancements
