IBM De-Dupe ProtecTIER Appliance Edition V2.3

The IBM System Storage TS7650 ProtecTIER Deduplication Appliance solution from IBM Corp., comprised of IBM System Storage ProtecTIER Appliance Edition V2.3 software and the IBM System Storage TS7650 ProtecTIER Deduplication Appliance (3958 Model AP1) hardware, is designed to address the disk-based data reduction needs of enterprise and distributed data centers.

ProtecTIER Appliance Edition V2.3 is enhanced to include additional capacity features for appliances with more than 32 TB of available storage. All previously announced features and functions of ProtecTIER Appliance Edition V2.3 remain unchanged and continue to be supported.

ProtecTIER Appliance Edition V2.3 supports:
  • In-line data deduplication powered by HyperFactor technology
  • Virtual tape resources of up to 12 virtual tape libraries per cluster, up to 256 virtual tape drives per server, and up to 128,000 virtual cartridges per server
  • Emulation of the IBM TS3500 tape library with IBM Ultrium 3 tape drives
  • Emulation of the Quantum P3000 tape library with DLT or IBM Ultrium 2 tape drives
  • IBM's path failover technology
  • Increased software capacity support up to 36 TB
  • Optional clustering support for higher availability
  • Optional IP replication support to allow virtual cartridges to be copied to a target ProtecTIER cluster based on defined policies
The TS7650 ProtecTIER Deduplication Appliance solution is an enterprise-class data protection platform designed to protect business information for midrange customers and enterprises, while reducing the amount of physical disk storage space required and improving the reliability and quality of backups.

ProtecTIER's IP replication function addresses two of the biggest requirements in a deduplication environment today: DR capabilities and off-site storage/archival. ProtecTIER IP replication provides a simple and affordable over-the-WAN method to move data to a remote DR site, and supports tape archiving capabilities outside of the primary production environment.

Deploying the TS7650 ProtecTIER Deduplication Appliance solution can help organizations more efficiently protect their corporate data on disk-based storage while helping them manage the exponential growth of new data through reduction and elimination of duplicate data in their backups.
