emBoot Enhances Image Sharing and Migration Capabilities
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on Wed, June 25th, 2008
Of its SAN boot
Enterprise, Server 2003/2008, XP, 2000 and Linux. netBoot/i provides a centrally managed SAN Boot solution using standard Ethernet network adapters that allows customers to reduce deployment and lifecycle operating costs for desktops and servers, reduce datacenter power and cooling requirements, and improve system resiliency, availability, flexibility, and recoverability.
Key functionality in netBoot/i v2.5 includes:
• P2V, V2P, V2V, P2P migration capabilities across dissimilar hardware and Microsoft or VMware virtual machines
• Support for booting clients (physical or virtual) running Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003/2008, Vista Enterprise, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES)
• Enhanced client-side data persistence when booting multiple devices from a single shared iSCSI boot image. Changes made on booting devices can now be stored individually either to local HD or to emBoot’s sanFly iSCSI target.
• Improved tools and procedures to join shared boot-image clients into a Microsoft Active Directory Domain
• Ability to assign multiple iSCSI boot targets to a client with boot default, failover, and user-selectable target options
• netBoot/i services – in addition to running on Windows, these are now available as a Linux daemon running under Linux
• Ability to install RHEL, SLES, Windows Server 2008 or Vista Enterprise directly from DVD to iSCSI storage
• Support for Diskless PCs and Remote Boot Flexible Desktop Computing Options under the Windows Vista Enterprise program
“With netBoot/i v2.5 we are delivering key new iSCSI boot functionality that customers have told us they need to more
broadly deploy SAN Boot across the enterprise,” said Steve Marfisi, Technical Services Manager of emBoot. “With this
release of netBoot/i, we are again demonstrating our commitment to delivering a powerful and cost-effective iSCSI boot
solution for the test lab, desktop computing and virtual/physical server environments.”
netBoot/i utilizes industry-standard iSCSI architecture to allow boot from SAN of any Windows (Vista Enterprise, Server
2008/2003/2000, XP/XPe) or Linux devices using existing low-cost Ethernet adapters versus more expensive host bus
adapters (HBAs). netBoot/i is available today from a worldwide network of partners including Integrators, Distributors,
OEMs, and iSCSI storage vendors.
