77% Did Not Backup in Offsite Location Prior to Using Online Service

According to a survey for KineticD conducted by Riverdale Partners

KineticD, a cloud storage and remote access service for small businesses, announced the results of a survey revealing specific needs of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to store, access and protect digital assets.

The survey results demonstrate that SMBs require backup services that are extremely easy to use, reliable and include security and collaboration capabilities. The study showed that prior to using an online backup service only 8 percent of users backed up their data at least once a month and 23 percent claimed they never did back ups at all.

The survey was conducted for the company by Riverdale Partners, and included over 1,000 online storage customers from North America, Europe and Asia. Survey respondents represented a diverse range of industries and highlighted a range of cloud storage benefits for SMBs concerned about digital business assets. Topics included in the survey ranged from more efficient data backups and faster recovery to secure remote access for an increasingly mobile work force.

The Survey Highlights Include:
  • 77 percent did not store backups in a secure offsite location prior to using the online service
  • 57 percent of respondents have had a data issue or loss and been able to use the online storage service to recover their data
  • 42 percent of respondents have a requirement for the ability to remotely access their PCs and collaborate with others on important files
  • 64 percent of respondents said that the online service reduces their worries and lets them focus on their business
"Gartner recently predicted that a fifth of businesses are likely to get rid of their IT infrastructure - not large businesses with data centers, but small and medium companies and startups," said Jamie Brenzel, CEO of KineticD. "Cloud computing services are on the verge of becoming mainstream for small and mid-size businesses who cannot afford the overhead of an IT infrastructure. Many of these organizations are realizing that there is no need to build a data center when you can have access to someone else's. Online backup and storage services that use secure and reliable cloud storage is the way of the future, especially for SMBs."
