Data Deposit Box Launches Free Service

For secure remote desktop access
Data Deposit Box, the online backup service designed especially for small businesses, announced availability of a free beta version of its new Remote Desktop service, making it easier than ever before to securely access a PC or server from any other PC without the hassle and cost of implementing and maintaining a Virtual Private Network (VPN).
Small and medium-sized business users often need remote access to their computer to use applications and files or to finish working from home, or another remote location. For many, the cost and IT support required to setup and maintain a secure VPN is a barrier. Other applications provide desktop access with proprietary technology or provide solutions that require the user to set up specific ports to go through routers and firewalls.
"We would use this new service for accessing work computers from home, and it may save us a heap by not requiring a VPN," said Richard Lucas, a beta user at Everest Business Systems in Australia.
Data Deposit Box Remote Desktop uses an industry standard protocol for Microsoft Windows and a simple user-friendly setup to securely authenticate through firewalls without involving IT support. Users can easily access computers, applications and files or finish working from another Windows PC. The new service also provides an easier way for service providers and IT support staff to access remote computers for end-user support without the delays associated with travel and onsite visits.
"As a leading provider of online backup, recovery and file sharing services, the addition of this new remote access solution gives small business users all of the benefits of cloud-based services without the enterprise-level IT costs and infrastructure requirements," said Jamie Brenzel, Data Deposit Box Founder and CEO.
Tony DiLeva, an early beta user at R&S Design Computer Services, Inc. in Media, Pennsylvania commented: "We do have a static address and port forwarding already, but this is much easier." Another beta user, Kirill Peslyak, from Davai Soft cc, a financial software development company in South Africa, said: "It's great to be able to access computers without static IP addresses for our servers and workstations from anywhere in the world."
Service Providers have also been testing the service for their own customer support and are finding that it allows them to better address issues immediately and improve client satisfaction.
The free beta version of Data Deposit Box's Remote Desktop service is available by registering online on the company's web site.
